It is late, but I am still awake. I'm cleaning my bedroom, listening to Rufus Wainwright. Poses is my second-favorite album from him.

Sometimes I think that the reason why artists' later albums aren't as good as their initial ones is that their initial albums had songs on them which took a while to gestate. They had time to let the fragments of a song sit, perhaps even unconsciously (or semi-consciously), in their minds for a some time. Then, when they have to come up with a new record . . . maybe their songs haven't had as long to settle out in their heads. Maybe some other thoughts and ways of thinking about a song get in the way, too.

I'm speculating.

For me, I worked a lot this week. The thing for me lately is trying to do whatever it takes to focus on the task at hand. I let myself get distracted more easily than I would like. I feel like I just need to focus on the fundamentals a bit more sometimes. Like, sometimes if I do work from home, I will use my Linux pc rather than just using my Windows work computer, even though the Windows computer has everything on it that I need to do my work. For me, Windows seXP is the right tool for my job because it's the tool that I'm required to use for my job. So I should just use it for work stuff, and not waste my time otherwise. I just need to get the things that get in the way... out of the way.

I fell asleep after work today. I worked from home, and got a lot done, but by the end of the day . . . my brain was tired.

A guy came out to look at my ceiling and kitchen. He is going to fix0r it. He is a friend of my coworker, and he seems to know what he is doing. He'll actually start on Monday. For those who know, I think I am going to be getting rid of "Our Lady of the Sink," the painted-on-tile Virgin-like figure that is above my sink (it's from the previous owners). Although it is nice to be able to place dirty dishes in the sink at the end of the day, and then have them miraculously cleaned by morning, I need space for dishes and cups. This tile painting takes up 3-4 feet of width where I could put stuff.

- my parents they warned me not to waste my years, and i still got their advice oozing out of my ears
- when all else fails, i make it a matter of self-respect

I have a lot to do tomorrow, so I think I'm going to stop here and go to bed. Be well, all.

I think the only Rufus album that I find WANTing is one of the Wants... I forget which one. One of them is not so sticky to me. I loved (understatement) Release the Stars, but I am worried that the new one might be a little blah. But he has a strong track record in my ears so we'll see. Next month!

There's one of the "Wants" that has "The One You Love," on it. That is one of my favorite songs from him, or at least I like listening to it a lot. It has Charlie Sexton on guitar on it, and I always like the way he plays. The rest of the record is not so good to me.

I hadn't heard that he had a new record coming out. Pretty neato. I'll have to check it out.
