Feb. 13th, 2008 06:55 ami went to this queer/nerds at heart get-together thing last night. like a singles-y event for somewhat "nerdy" people or something. i put the "/" in there because you wore a colored nametag to indicate whether or not you were a 'mo, and they put all of the 'mos together ... we played board games and talked and hung out and ate mini tacos and stuff.
as far as putting yourself out there amongst other single people goes, it went ok. while walking there i was thinking to myself whether "nerdy," is a nice way of saying, "pretentious," but i was willing to give things the benefit of the doubt and was just hoping that people would be pretty cool. there there were some cute, cool-seeming guys there, and one ... um, one guy who sat next to me who talked really loud. :) the straight crowd seemed like a good mix of people, too . . . as far as i could tell.
the organizers were pretty friendly, and they had some fun faux dating video things from the 1950's, and some trivia questions, and i liked how they had both hets and homs in the same room, even if we didn't comingle a lot. we were there, we were queer, everyone seemed used to it. everyone who was there got a prize of some kind (you could get one if you won a trivia question or a board game, but you still got one even if you lost at everything.) i got a little stamper that you can use to stamp "i love <3 you," onto a piece of toast. i guess that most of the time they have individual events - one event for the gays and another for the straights, but tonight we were all together.
i feel like such a square for having gone to this event. i dunno.
they have this t.v. show in chicago called "190 north," and they were there filming for the show last night, so i might be on this channel 7 (abc) tv show or something. (the woman in the front/middle was there.) um... heh, yeah. i guess i've been wanting to be more out, right? i sat right next to janet davies and we went over the rules to the board game together. ?? wow.
i'm regrowing my beardy in response to the snow crap. we've had too much of it. i hadn't shaved for two days in a row, so i just decided to go with it.
i need to go to work now. i hope all have an ok day today.
