this item up for bid makes me wish they had an "ebay-cut" tag. seriously, hello . . . fonts. yeay. (you have to scroll down a bit.)

i volunteered for a bit at free geek chicago today. we have these testing stations where we test RAM and where we wipe hard drives and check them for errors. the testing stations kept goofing up, so i spent a fair amount of time just trouble-shooting the testing stations. that was kind of fun (i'm not being sarcastic). it's just a matter of figuring out which part is messing up, and trying out a couple of other parts to see if they'll work. now i can say that i know how to swap out processors on old pentium II machines (we use basic parts for the testing stations).

we have so many 1 gigabyte hard drives laying around that i came up with the idea of collecting 1,000 of them and putting together a terabyte cluster of some kind. don't really think it would work, but it was a funny idea.

it took me about 50 minutes to get out there by bike. thank goodness it's still relatively warm outside. :) i see that some cold stuff is on the way in the next week or so.
